WROC’s Guardian Angel Progam
If anything happened to you, what would happen to me?
Plan For Your Westie’s Future Today
Tragically, many companion animals are surrendered to shelters and euthanized simply because their human caregiver dies or becomes too ill to care for them. Providing care for your pets is a lifelong commitment. WROC will be there to honor this commitment if you no longer can.
WROC specializes in long term care of Westies of deceased or ill owners.
We provide a sanctuary for your Westie and will find your dog a wonderful home. We take great care in placing our dogs with interviews, home visits, reference checks, and follow up contact. We advise you to work with an attorney to draw up a will, trust or other document to designate WROC to care for and take ownership of your Westie, as well as designating the money necessary to take care of your beloved pet.
It is critical to plan ahead.
Make formal arrangements that specifically cover the care of your pet. Designate WROC as your caregiver and you will have peace of mind that your Westie will have the very best care. Seek legal assistance from professionals who can guide you in preparing legal documents that will protect your interests and those of your pet. Your lawyer will help you decide which is right for you, a Will or a Trust.
Is a Will the best way to provide for my pet?
There are some drawbacks to Wills. A Will takes effect only upon your death and may take time to be probated, determining the rightful new owner of your pet may be delayed, and your instructions regarding your pet’s long term care may also be delayed. This does not mean that you should not include a provision in your Will that provides for your pet, but you should explore creating additional documents that compensate for the Will’s limitations.
How can setting up a Trust help?
A Trust created separately from a will carries certain benefits. A Trust can provide for your pet immediately and can be written to exclude certain assets from the probate process so that funds are available to care for your pet. Keep in mind that tying up a substantial amount of money or property for an animal’s benefit may prove controversial from the point of view of a relative or heir. The amount should be reasonable $1,000 - $10,000 depending on your pet and your circumstances.
